Dr. David Block is Director Emeritus of the Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC) having resigned as Center Director in November 2002. As Center Director, he was key to the development of FSEC’s hydrogen program and its hydrogen activities. He has the distinction of serving as FSEC’s Director for 25 years, the longest of any individual in a similar position in the United States. Under his leadership, FSEC earned national and international recognition as the largest and most active state-supported solar energy institute in the nation. As Director, he was responsible for leading the State of Florida’s research efforts in solar energy and energy efficiency and FSEC’s programs and activities.

Research Focus:

Dr. David Block is Project Manager of FSEC’s NASA hydrogen research grant. The NASA grant which supports the hydrogen activities for NASA’s space launches and the development of spaceports for the future. The research project is conducted by FSEC and six universities within the State University System of Florida.

He has more than 30 publications on hydrogen technology and has specialized in technologies and economics of hydrogen production from renewable resources. In 1994, he was the organizer and host of the World Hydrogen Energy Conference held in Cocoa Beach.

Dr. Block has also been very active in the national hydrogen program. His work on the NASA research project during the past four years has given him extensive experience with hydrogen for space applications and with individuals at NASA Glenn Research Center and at NASA Kennedy Space Center. He has also served on the Board of Directors of the National Hydrogen Association and has numerous industry contacts.
